st. James infirmary
A bluesy bar scene gives way to a chilling puppet vignette
The song "St. James Infirmary" is a time-honored jazz standard, told from the viewpoint of drunk "Big Joe McKennedy," who darkly romanticizes his girlfriend's corpse.
Let her go, let her go, God bless her / Wherever she may be
she can search the whole wide world over / Never find a sweeter man than me.
Let her go, let her go, God bless her / Wherever she may be
she can search the whole wide world over / Never find a sweeter man than me.
brown bagging it
This is an unusually dark piece for me.
As much as I love this song, stories about violence against women are overdone. They're basic. Similarly, these puppets are decidedly not beautiful. Like the labels on the booze bottles, they're featureless and generic. Brown paper bags felt like the perfect material. |
